Radiation therapy is a type of localized, noninvasive cancer therapy. Radiation therapy is painless, and sessions are held mainly in an outpatient setting. This type of therapy uses ionizing radiation to cause tumor cell necrosis. Let’s find out together the duration of radiation therapy and how it works.<\/p>\n

Radiation therapy is the most common cancer therapy; 60 percent of cancer patients undergo it at least once during their course of treatment. Radiation therapy is almost always combined with other treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy. Although it is a non-invasive therapy it has side effects, we told you about it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Radiotherapy treatment uses X-rays, which are used both in X-rays for diagnostic purposes but also for therapeutic purposes in the case of radiotherapy. X-ray dosages change depending on the purpose for which they are used.<\/p>\n

In the diagnostic field, X-rays allow us to see and evaluate fractures and lesions while in radiotherapy they attack and shrink cancer cells.<\/p>\n

Radiation in radiation therapy is direct and affects the tumor mass by damaging the ability of cancer cells to multiply. In this way, the tumor should gradually shrink. To assess the response to radiotherapy, it is necessary to wait 6-8 weeks after completion of treatment.<\/p>\n

Radiotherapy how long does it last? There is no absolute or precise answer to this question; the duration of therapy varies depending on the specific case, the patient, and the type of tumor. A full radiotherapy treatment can last for 2-3 weeks.<\/p>\n

Usually one therapy is given daily from Monday to Friday with rest over the weekend to allow the healthy cells affected by the radiation therapy to enact the process of self-repair.
